in europe our milk is often prepared in a way that it doesnt need to be refrigerated until you open it! same with eggs sometimes iirc, but i tend to mostly see it with milk

Just for anyone wondering, that's long life milk. It's made to last for quite a while, unopened that is. So the milk being on the shelf is fine. Bottled or bagged milks goes in the fridge, carton milk can go on the shelf. Unless it's opened, then it goes in the fridge
