I did this 2 days ago on my M. V 3500 transmission, it's a 5 speed. And I did this to the exact same spot he's doing his. It's to the shifter

My dad showed me that trick using gasket material.
Made a head gasket for a motorcycle little two stroke.
Fired right up.
About 1/2 way down the street
Bit's of the milk carton still on fire
Starting hitting my leg
Then the engine died
Had to push it home
At least the street was flat

So β¦ does that not damage the machined edges ? Itβs got to at least some , and does it matter if it does ? Metal on metal is super sketchy

Seen a ole skool do this a couple times as a kid each time I said it's not going to hold each time I was proved wrong as we made it to where we was going before he could hit up a AutoZone or some car parts store πππ

I worked with an old vet that said he still uses manilla envelopes to make certain gaskets because they used em in the service and they worked so well. Not saying its a good idea, just sharing a related story.
